We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sir David Nabarro, a towering figure in public health, sustainable development and food systems transformation.
David was a trusted advisor, a gifted communicator and a lifelong advocate for global equity, resilience and collaboration. His leadership at the highest levels of the United Nations, his work across international institutions and his tireless efforts during global health crises, from Ebola to COVID-19, saved lives and strengthened systems that serve the world’s most vulnerable.
As a member of EAT’s Advisory Board and a close confidant to our co-founder Dr. Gunhild Stordalen, David helped shape our vision and deepen our commitment to systemic change. He brought wisdom, warmth and moral clarity to every exchange.
In recognition of his lifelong contributions to nutrition and public health, David was awarded the 2018 World Food Prize. He was also instrumental in establishing the Food Systems Summit Dialogues, which brought together voices from across sectors, geographies and perspectives in a spirt of openness, reflection and shared purpose. David believed that lasting change in food systems must begin by listening to all those affected and ensuring their meaningful participation in shaping the way forward.
We send our heartfelt condolences to David’s family, friends and colleagues at the 4SD Foundation and all those whose lives and work he touched. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide our efforts for years to come.
