Job Summary
This role sits in FOLU’s International Policy and Engagement team within the Global Secretariat. The postholder will be responsible for advancing the  health and nutrition agendas in FOLU’s international policy work. Working with the Coalition’s eight International Partners and seven Country Platforms, you will build out impactful workstreams on health and nutrition that will help FOLU drive impact at both the national and international level. You will have substantive expertise in health and nutrition policy, with a clear vision for how this can be leveraged through effective partnerships and policy engagement. You will be able to work both independently and as part of a large, international team, responding constructively to changing priorities.

This position is based at EAT’s Oslo office, with limited international travel expected. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. EAT is unable to sponsor any visa work for this position.

Role Responsibilities and Functions
Your main area of responsibility will be to lead the development and coordination of FOLU’s Health and Nutrition strategy though the Coalition’s international policy work. You will work within FOLU’s broader International Policy and Engagement team and together will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of the strategy ensuring the Coalition meets its expected outcomes and impacts. The below percentages indicated approximate time allocation expected (though please note, these are only indicative):

Thought leadership and strategy (25%):

  • Help develop FOLU’s strategy for influencing outcomes at key international events, including UNFCCC COPs, World Health Assemblies and other major convenings working with FOLU’s Director of International Policy & Engagement and FOLU Country Platform teams.
  • Advance FOLU’s thinking on health and nutrition, including describing a theory of change for shaping international policy and influencing key actors and decision makers.

Delivery (35%):

  • Lead the health and nutrition workstreams for international engagements, including through the development of events, policy asks and communications products, working closely with FOLU’s Secretariat teams (including Knowledge Generation, Countries, and Communications team) as well as driving coordination of delivery across the Coalition’s eight International Partners.
  • Input and support the development and implementation of knowledge products and engagement strategies focusing on dietary shifts.
  • Work with FOLU Country Platforms and International Partners to identify opportunities to develop targeted analysis and engagement strategies on health and nutrition.
  • Lead key project management functions including planning, organising work plans and ensuring the delivery of timely, high quality outputs delivering on budget.
  • Ensure on time inputs into donor reports and support quality assurance across FOLU’s international policy and engagement workstreams.

Communications, outreach and external engagement (20%): 

  • Working with FOLU’s Knowledge Generation & Engagement as well as Communications teams, translate complex research findings into accessible and actionable insights for policymakers, private sector stakeholders, and civil society.
  • Build and maintain relationships across FOLU (both its International Partners and Country Platforms) and build and maintain trusted relationships with external partners across the private sector, civil society, financial institutions and international institutions. Engage with global and regional networks, academic institutions, NGOs, and other partners to build impactful alliances and disseminate research outputs.
  • Represent the Coalition in high level meetings and at public events to advance FOLU’s objectives.

Fundraising and Development (10%)

  • Identify opportunities to grow FOLU’s health and nutrition work, developing concepts for new workstreams and working with the Secretariat, International Partners and Country Platforms to develop compelling funding proposals for potential funders.
  • Work with FOLU’s fundraising manager to embed high potential opportunities into fundraising proposals and support bid processes.

You will be based at the EAT office in Oslo, Norway, and will interact closely with FOLU’s International Partners. This job is graded at WRI 5 / EAT  Senior Manager level.

Person Specification
You will have deep expertise in health and nutrition policy, with a clear vision for how this can be leveraged through effective partnerships and policy engagement. You will be a clear and compelling communicator, able to engage persuasively with a diverse range of international stakeholders at all levels. You will be a proactive self-starter, whose energy and passion for FOLU’s mission inspires others.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field(health, nutrition, international relations, development) is required. A completed Master’s degree in a relevant field is desirable
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience within government, UN agencies, academia, public/private health or business, with a proven track record of policy analysis and development in a relevant field
  • Deep expertise in health and nutrition policy
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with full fluency in written and spoken English
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to take initiative, work independently, juggle multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
  • Advanced digital tools skills (Office 365, Zoom etc.)
  • Thrives on multitasking and has the ability to shift focus and prioritize tasks independently
  • Comfortable and capable working alone as well as in teams
  • Enjoys high pace, manages stress well and thrives in an agile working environment
  • Experience in relationship management, including at a senior level and in various cultural contexts
  • Passion for FOLU’s mission
  • Ability to work legally in the Norway and flexibility to travel internationally

Program Overview
The Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) is a self-governed Coalition of organisations and individuals working collaboratively to achieve a shared objective: the urgent transformation of food and land use systems to deliver a better future for people, nature and climate. FOLU country platforms are operating in: Brazil, China, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Ethiopia and Kenya.

FOLU’s Ambassador network is co-chaired by Shenggen Fan, Agnes Kalibata and Paul Polman.  They are international, senior leaders who engage decision-makers at the global and national level to drive change in one or more FOLU countries.
