EAT is pleased to announce significant changes to its Board of Trustees, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to global food systems transformation. The new appointments reflect a wealth of experience in leadership, investment, innovation and science.
Christian H. Thommessen, a seasoned executive with an impressive track record in both the private and non-profit sectors, will assume the role of Vice Chair. Mr. Thommessen has a distinguished history with multinational corporations, including in Norsk Hydro and IBM, where he held leadership roles in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Beyond the corporate world, he has been a driving force in sustainability and social entrepreneurship, notably through his work with Save the Children and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). His expertise in impact investment and climate technology, through climate ventures like CHOOOSE and Zerolytics, positions him to bring invaluable insight and strategic direction to our mission.
Joining Mr. Thommessen are two additional board members, Ruchir Agarwal and Martin Madaus. Ruchir Agarwal steps in during the tenure of Usman Mushtaq, who is temporarily stepping away from his board responsibilities to serve as Norway’s Deputy Minister of Health. A research fellow at Harvard and former senior advisor to the G20 Finance Health Task Force, Ruchir Agarwal has a wealth of expertise in global health and economic policy. His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he spearheaded the International Monetary Fund’s $50 billion Pandemic Plan, underscores his ability to navigate complex global challenges—a skill that will be indispensable as EAT continues its work in reshaping global food systems.
Martin Madaus brings over three decades of leadership in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors. Currently, he serves as Healthcare Operating Executive at The Carlyle Group and as Executive Chairman at Emulate Inc., where he is pioneering advancements in biomedical research and diagnostics. His experience leading the transformation of life science companies, including his role as Chairman and CEO of Millipore, will be crucial in steering EAT’s focus on innovation and sustainability in the food systems landscape.
These appointments strengthen EAT’s Board of Trustees and will help drive the organization forward as it remains committed to fostering science-based solutions and partnerships that address the critical issues of our time—feeding the world while safeguarding the planet.
