Dr Francesco Branca
Director of Nutrition for Health and Development, WHO
Dr. Francesco Branca holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery, specialized in Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases from the Universta’ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Roma. He also has a Ph.D in Nutrition from Aberdeen University.
Prior to his current position, he worked as a Senior Scientist at the Italian Food and Nutrition Research Institute, where he led studies on the effects of food and nutrients on human health and the impact of public health programs.
He was President of the Federation of European Nutrition Societies (2003-2007).
During his tenure with WHO, a new nutritional guideline development process has been established and a Comprehensive Implementation Plan on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition has been developed.
