Clare Matterson is currently the Chair of the National Forum for Public Engagement with STEM.
At the Wellcome Trust, Clare Matterson heads work on strategy, policy, advocacy and education.
She also leads grant management and incubates new initiatives. She has previously worked as the Wellcome Trust Director of Culture and Society from 2004 to 2014. She also conceived and headed work for the Wellcome Collection during its first 10 years, a highly acclaimed public venue.
Matterson also led the Wellcome Trust’s initiative to set up the National Learning Centre in partnership with the UK Government, aimed at improving science education.
